St. Joseph School received a perfect Readiness Rate of 200 for the 2008-2009 School Year.
This score indicates our students’ readiness for Kindergarten.
Only 17 VPK providers out of more than 150 in Brevard County received this perfect score. |
St. Joseph School is a Catholic School under the auspices of the Diocese of Orlando for children in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 8. The school is located on Babcock Street in Palm Bay, south of Palm Bay Road. The school's location makes it very convenient to major corporations in the area such as: Harris, Northrup-Grumman, and Intersil.
St. Joseph Catholic School is a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence as recognized by the United States Department of Education in 1993-1994 and in September 2006 the school was named a 2006 National Blue Ribbon School.
St. Joseph School Accepts all of the following:
From the Principal...
Dear Friends in Christ,
Greetings and peace to you from your local Catholic School!
Both psychologists and educators tell us that the early childhood and elementary years are the most significant in the development of a child's life. The love, care and concern which we express, along with the commitment of our time, are crucial to the development of a positive self image and the healthy self esteem of our children.
The selection of a school is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. As educators, we share in the awesome responsibility of a partnership with you in the character and value formation of children.
As a Catholic School, we stand in a very rich and respectable tradition of excellence in our country. This reputation is further enhanced by our recognition as a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1994 and our recent recognition as a 2006 National Blue Ribbon School.
Why not consider St. Joseph School as a viable educational alternative for your family? For a personal tour and newcomer package please call (321) 723-8866.
Sincerely,
Anna V. Adam, Principal

Technology Update
Mrs. Guthrie is excited to announce ARRA (American
Reinvestment and Recovery Act) funds have been approved
for our school to purchase interactive whiteboards
from SMART, document cameras, installation,
teacher training, and software for every grade.
The
teachers are excited about the endless possibilities
this technology will make available to them. The
SMART boards are scheduled to be installed in July.
Teachers will spend a day in August being trained. We
are still waiting to hear if other requested items have
been approved, keep the prayers coming!
Smart Tuition Fee Rebate
If you have students enrolled in more than one school in the diocese of Orlando and are enrolled
in the Smart Tuition payment program you are eligible for a fee rebate. The fee paid for
the younger student(s) account will be refunded. To claim this rebate a form must be filled out
and returned to Smart Tuition. If you would like to receive one of these forms, please email
your request to lansdonr@st-joe.org or call Rose Lansdon at 723-8866, ext 122.
3. Scrip Update
Thanks to all who have purchased and used the gift cards. If you haven’t tried the program, please do! Besides using the
gift cards for your everyday shopping, think about your Christmas shopping and how easy it is to give gift cards to the people
on your Christmas list! What a great way to earn money for our school and tuition credit for yourself while saving
time and gas!
4. Fingerprint Clearances
When it is time to do fingerprints for volunteering whether it be for the first time or for renewal, there is
now an additional step in the process. After you register for the prints and have your bar code, you must take
the Safe Environment Training class and test. St. Joseph School will NOT be notified that your fingerprints
have cleared until after you have taken and passed the Safe Environment Training test. For complete details
on the fingerprinting process, see the directions on the St. Joseph website, www.st-joe.org.
5. ITBS Testing News
The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) was administered to students in grades 3-8th in October. The ITBS test
is a nationally norm referenced test which compares students with others across the nation. In order for the
test to be reliable and valid, schools need to replicate the standardization for comparable results. Since the
standardized group the norms were based on was not given any test preparation, Riverside Publishing recommends
that test preparation be limited to test taking skills and not test content. Information from the test is
used to evaluate curriculum and individual student progress. For more information about the ITBS test visit
www.riversidepublishing.com
The Diocese of Orlando mandated that we change our testing program this year and use 2005 norms. Since
new norms were used, data is not available to compare students’ performances from the past years to this
year. Our valid and reliable scores this year indicate that students in grades 3-8 averaged better than 72.5%
of students nationally!
6. Stimulus Funding
Brevard County Private schools are entitled to a percentage
of the stimulus funding that has been awarded
to Brevard County. There are specific criteria for
what schools can request. St. Joseph School has submitted
their proposal and will know what has been approved
for funding from the county before Christmas.
